Hello, my name is Dan Decker and I'm the founder and CEO of Peak Rarities. I was always fascinated by coins, and some of my earliest memories include sitting with my grandfather while we looked through his album of Morgan dollars. I had a small collection of assorted silver coins as a teenager, but like many others I became sidetracked by extracurriculars by the time I got to high school. Luckily, my passion for collecting never faded and I returned to the hobby once I was able to participate in a meaningful way.

 

Nearly all my early work experience revolved around construction. I spent summers working for my father and my uncles, most of whom ran their own businesses. This instilled in me the virtue of a strong work ethic. Despite being skilled in mechanical trades like HVAC, I grew weary of the physical demands of working in hot attics and cramped crawlspaces. In 2019, I made a career shift and took on a sales position in South Florida. Two years later, I seized the opportunity to start my own business as a marketing consultant and business development specialist. Teaming up with several associates, we successfully ran campaigns for various products, providing me with the means to finally delve into numismatics in a way I had only dreamed of before. 

 

I initially embarked on building a pre-33 gold type set. As I began to immerse myself in the hobby, I joined the Collector's Universe forum, to which I credit most of my fundamental knowledge.  Forging relationships with other collectors came naturally to me, and I routinely make the effort to establish connections with fellow enthusiasts who share my passion for these beautiful pieces of history. Unlike some collectors who prefer solitude, I am genuinely grateful for the camaraderie that comes with the "Hobby of Kings". 

 

Over time, I've also developed an extensive network of dealers and other numismatic professionals, many being titans in the industry and respective experts in their fields. I've taken every opportunity possible to learn from them and understand what it takes to be a great numismatist. My first time at a national coin show was Winter FUN 2022, I loved the experience and since have made it a priority to travel to all the major shows and seek out the finest examples for my collection, and further my knowledge about the business side of numismatics. I started selling coins intermittently in my spare time, advertising them at shows or through various social media channels such as Facebook or Instagram.

By early 2024, it appeared that my various efforts were starting to come to fruition. My name had become recognizable among the coin community, and I found myself often being turned to for advice or opinions about coins. My pioneer and early gold collection had grown to be admired, and my skills at identifying choice examples with original surfaces had sharpened considerably. Having built an impeccable reputation through my dealings with other collectors and professionals, I realized I was well-positioned to pursue a career doing something I loved. Though my other ventures had been successful and helped establish and refine my business philosophies and practices, spending my time working with coins brought me a great deal of joy, which was far more important to me than the financial incentives from my previous line of work.

Thus, Peak Rarities was born. I am thrilled to begin this journey and start helping others to see numismatics through the same lens that I do.
