1800 $5 PCGS AU-58 CAC
Well folks, they really do not come any better than this. At least not in AU. This coin has everything you could ask for from the type. Unmolested original surfaces with no noticable abrasions, the luster is just trying to shine through the thick, vibrant honey-gold patina. This was my first "big" purchase, and the very coin that made me fall in love with early gold. The eye appeal is truly sublime. Perfect as a type example, or perhaps fitting nicely into an advanced date set, you are sure to fall in love with this coin the moment it arrives.
There are two relevant APR's, as we're going to ignore the rare BD-1 example that sold for $40,800 ex. HA 2/22. A different PCGS/CAC 58 sold for $21,600 ex Stacks 4/22, with some noticable abrasions and adjustment marks on the reverse. Another PCGS/CAC 58+ sold for $25,200, also 4/22 ex HA. We're of the opinion that this example is far superior to both of those coins. We would much prefer to handle coins like these than 61/62 grades which often come dipped and scratchy, for more money.
