1802 Draped Bust Cent PCGS XF40 CAC S-231 No Stems
Choice, chocolate-brown surfaces ooze with originality on this well struck Early Cent. Tremendous eye appeal is bolstered by smooth and unabraded fields, there are no eye catching distractions to speak of. These coins are often plagued with planchet defects. environmental damage, and harsh cleaning, but none of the above issues are present on this coin. All of the devices are crisp and fully detailed, the dentils are sharp and well defined.
Sporting a fresh CAC sticker, this is the S-231 "No Stems" variety, which can be identified by the obverse die crack and positioning of the leaves between the E and S of STATES. We spotted this coin at a local show where it has been tucked away in a collection for many years, and were compelled to pay up for it despite not yet being CAC approved. Fortunately, CAC agreed with our assessment and we are pleased to offer this very choice, and very fresh early copper for the advanced collector.
