1814 Capped Bust Half Dollar O-102 PCGS AU58 CAC
This example is host to mark-free surfaces, with a strong strike. The only signs of any weakness being on the reverse at the eagle’s claws, which is common on these Bust Halves. Pockets of teal, sea foam green, and auburn grace the surfaces, offering appealing toning in conjunction with the luster that is quite visible throughout, especially near the stars and legend. An overall appealing early half dollar.
This is an O-102, and the tell is Liberty’s clasp, where you can see raised die lines and die pitting. This is due to a US Mint employee attempting to remove rust from the die with a wire brush.
