1822/1 Capped Bust Half Dollar PCGS MS62 CAC
An important distinction for Capped Bust Half Dollars is the presence of cabinet friction or ‘wear’ on the high points. On MS Bust Halves, it is very difficult to discern at times due to the nature of the design and wear patterns. This example is a Mint State example, with no evidence of sliding around in a cabinet. Sharp cartwheel luster envelopes this Bust Half, with the frosty, yet satiny surfaces coming to life under a light. Original ivory surfaces are accented by tinges of sea blue and dandelion, and we really want to stress the originality of this coin.
This is the 1822/1 O-101 which has an R2 designation. With only 11 coins in the population at PCGS in 62 and 6 at NGC, these are extremely difficult to come by in this grade. As well, with CAC approval there are only 2 in total. As a date overall, the 1822 and 1822/1 are tough to find original and/or eye appealing. This is a coin you don’t want to miss out on.
