1855-S $5 Liberty PCGS AU53 CAC Fairmont

A delightfully crusty no motto San Fran half eagle, with no notable distractions and a gorgeous russet tone that brings the issue to life. Comps for this issue in 53CAC are all over the place, but one of the most recent sales was on Stacks Bowers in session 7 of the Fairmont Collection, the Mont Blanc Set. That coin sold for $7200, which is a bit of an outlier from the typical range of $4,000-$5,000. We think this coin is deserving of a price on the higher end of that spectrum, but in our opinion the $7,200 was quite an overbuy. Considering that the CAC price guide jumps from $4,690 to $6,000 in AU55 CAC, we feel that AU53 is the perfect value grade and provides the most bang for your buck.
