1857 $3 PCGS MS63
With a paltry mintage of only 20,891 coins, the 1857 is considerably rarer than the 1854-O and the 1856. It appears most frequently in MS63, as evidenced by the current example. This coin has choice surfaces and a subtle peach tone in the peripheries. It has traces of reflectivity in the protected areas, and the details are well defined. Only a few scattered ticks can be found under magnification, and the eye appeal leaves little to be desired. A lifeless, overgraded, and ticky NGC 63 sold for $4,800 4 years ago in a much weaker market, so the most applicable APR would be a an attractive PCGS 63 with pleasing color that sold for $7, 800 at Stack's in 2019.
