1889 $2.5 PCGS MS-63 CAC GOLD OGH
This highly decorated quarter eagle has all the bells and whistles one could possibly ask for. Housed in an old green holder and sporting a gold CAC sticker, it is abundantly clear that this "MS-63" got a raw deal when it was originally graded decades ago. Frosty luster compliments the handsome rose-gold surfaces and minor blemishes are few and far in between.
Typically, CAC only awards a gold sticker to coins that not only are undergraded by one point, but they have to be extremely strong in the next grade up and they must posess compelling eye appeal. Some gold CAC coins can be undergraded by two full points or more, but we wouldn't go that far and we think this one can reasonably be called a nice 64+. In light of the fact that the CAC retail guide has an MS65 at a lofty $8100, we thought this coin had tremendous value when we purchased it directly out of auction for $3360 at HA 05/24.
