1900 Lesher HK-789 NGC MS62
To give this piece a backstory, Heritage sums up this Lesher Dollar quite well. “Joseph Lesher owned a silver mine near Victor, Colorado circa 1900. To promote the use of silver, he produced octagonal one-ounce silver souvenir medals, and distributed them through local merchants until the Secret Service put an end to his activities. Lesher's best customer was grocer A.B. Bumstead. Per Adna Wilde, 500 examples of HK-789 were struck, although far fewer remain today.”
Our mint state example’s obverse features an extremely intricate scene of the Pikes Peak Silver Mine, complete with the mountains of Colorado. Uncirculated surfaces and a pleasant light golden tone around the edges add to the eye appeal of this piece. A beautiful design and storied history makes this Lesher Dollar a very popular, interesting, and affordable example for any collector.
There are no real recent comps in 62. A PCGS AU58 sold for $3720 in 07/2023 and the last 62 comp as a PCGS example was in 01/2020 for $3480. As you know, the market has picked up quite a bit of strength since that time, we feel that this piece is priced very affordably.
