1907 $20 High Relief Flat Edge PCGS MS-64 CAC
A timeless classic, this iconic design never ceases to draw eyes. Many consider the High Relief Saint to be the most beautiful U.S. coin ever minted. Although they are relatively available, finding an appealing CAC approved example free of distractions can prove to be difficult. In addition, this is the latter Flat Edge variety which is significantly more scarce than the wire edge. This coin has a deep yellow-gold color with an orange undertone, complimented with satiny luster that radiates from the peripheries. Just a few tiny ticks in the fields consistent with the grade, this well preserved Double Eagle has outstanding eye appeal.
Per Doug Winter, the foremost expert on U.S. Gold, the ideal value grades for this issue are 58 and 64, preferably with CAC approval. Finding a quality gem in 65 or higher will present a challenge and the price tag will be much more painful. The most recent 64 CAC flat rim to sell publicly was one on HA 11/22 for $40,800, but that was almost 2 years ago and earlier that year another example on HA sold for $44,400. We also think it's worth noting that the last 3 NON CAC examples sold for $38,400, $32,200, and $40,800, respectively.
